Rory McIlroy Irish Jingle and the secret to his swing!

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Hello GolfSwingFreaks,

http://www.golfswingfreak.com/videos/view.php?id=319

Here is a great song about Rory McIlroy becoming the number one player in the world. It is also always fun to watch his swing. People always have analyzed Hogan’s swing and tried to find his secret. Watching Rory’s swing I think his secret is in how he moves his hips on the bacskwing. His hips actually seem to start the backswing with a turning move to the right, then his shoulders turn to the top. This early hip turn creates momentum and rhythm so that he can create a tremendous amount of torque at the top of his swing. From there, he drops the club down and clears his hips, but only after his weight is on his left side. Then, he follows through in complete balance with a dramatic stop to his powerful swing.

Hit ‘em like Rory,

Brian

2012 Predictions and Resolutions!

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Happy New Year Golf Swing Freaks,

Here are my Golf Predictions for 2012:

1) Bubba Watson will be the leading money winner and win the FedEx Cup, why not, he just shot a 58.

2) Tiger Woods will win the masters, and win 3 more tournaments worldwide.

3) Rory Mcilroy will win the US Open

4) Bud Cauley, Ricky Fowler, and a few guys from the Nationwide Tour will win for the first time

5) Lee Westwood will win the British Open

6) Gary Woodland will win the PGA Championship

7) Adam Scott will win the Players Championships

8 ) Yani Tseng will win two majors and Lexi Thompson will win one

9) Keegan Bradley will make the Ryder cup team and lead the US to victory

10) Many of these predictions will be wrong

Resolutions are great because if they do work they can help you make significant improvements in your life, if you fail, you are still better than when you started.

Here are mine:

1) Work out, stretch, and swing my driver 20 times a day

2) Lose some weight, don’t want to set any goals on this one, but if I follow #1 I should be losing some weight

3) Hit a lot more greens this year

4) Stop chunking chips by accelerating through the ball

5) keep releasing the putter blade and simply try and putt the ball in the hole

6) Blog often

7) I will increase my swing speed

8 ) I will improve my swing with video

9) I will stop tilting my head to the left on my backswing

10) I will stop letting go of the club and swing down with the club more vertical and finish more left after impact, without thinking about it:)

World Record Set: 2576 Golf Balls Hit On Knees in 6:36 Minutes, Here is the Story!

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Hello GolfSwingFreaks,

The World Record has been set. I hit 2576 golf balls that went over 100 yards into a grid that was at a 30 degree angle from the teeing area on December 20th, 2011!

Here are two video links from local news reports:

KNXV 12-20 5PM Golf Record

KSAZ 12-20 6PM Golf Record

View the press release on my last blog post here for sponsor and Folds of Honor Donating Information, I was excited to raise $815:

http://www.golfswingfreak.com/news/?p=142

Here are some highlights/reflections/thank you’s from the World Record Attempt:

1) Setting a world record is really hard, I gave out physically right after the record was set. A muscle in my left rib cage, my left arm, and left wrist were completely done and I had to stop. My back was less sore than after a normal round of golf.

2) Mentally I never doubted I would set the record, and hit the ball well all day. I need to develop the same confidence off of my feet. But it is hard, the ball is further away and it is harder to keep the lower body stable on your feet.

3) Teeing up golf balls for 6 and a half hours is harder than actually hitting them. Thanks Benny and Jake!

4) Keeping Track of the balls hit and keeping time is very boring. Thanks Tim and Josh for all of your expertise and work!

5) Thanks for everyone that donated to Folds of Honor, it is a great cause!

6) Thanks to Raven Golf Club at Verrado for allowing me to use the driving range and supplying the golf balls, staff, and equipment for the record attempt.

7) I learned that this is my one and only attempt at a Knee Driver World Record, but that is what Brett Favre and Michael Jordan said about retiring…

8) If I attempt a future record it would be for low score in a round of golf on my knees.

9) Golf is a great sport that requires a commitment to improve and accomplish your goals, it also teaches you how to fail.

10) Golf is man’s most humbling diversion – for that reason alone, it is the greatest game he has ever devised. – Ben Hogan

Brian

RELAXED FREDDY KEY TO US WIN!

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Hello Friends,

The United States just won the 2011 Presidents Cup. Every time someone wins
and loses everyone likes to analyze why, and usually this includes figuring out why the losing team lost. I believe it came down to the captains this year. Norman gets all of the credit for being a strong proactive leader. He stirred things up in the beginning by criticizing Couples early pick of Tiger Woods. Norman has publicly complained about Tiger not calling him out of respect when he moved into his neighborhood, and Norman has seemed to hold a grudge. Disclaimer: I grew up loving Nick Faldo and trying to emulate his swing, so I was excited when Faldo beat him at the Masters and when others holed out on him. When I was young I watched Norman at the Fred Meyer Challenge and heard him say he didn’t care about his double bogey because he was worth millions. So, not a huge Norman fan, but still think his grudge against Tiger and pairing Scott against him showed he was mostly concerned with beating Tiger instead of strategizing how to win. The young Australians idolized Norman to such an extent that I think he intimidated them. He left them feeling like they were too young and inexperienced to play well on their own without his help. He intimidates his players and they played with the fear of letting down their idol. He also got in their faces, to coach them, and literally grabbed their faces. In an interview he said he couldn’t repeat what he said to Jason Day after he got off to a horrible start. He grabbed his face to talk to him. Fred Couples is absolutely laid back, and can get be criticized for not being a good leader because of this, but golf is different. Being tight and nervous does not work. Having fun while being focused and cool is the best frame of mind to be in to play great golf under pressure. Paul Azinger won a Ryder Cup this way, he skipped the traditional speeches where everyone talks about how important the Ryder Cup has been to them. He grouped people together throughout the tournament and made sure everyone had fun. Freddy stayed cool, he responded gracefully to all of Norman’s comments, and his demeanor was contagious. Mickelson also adopted this mindset and kept the atmosphere loose and fun by joking around and playing ping pong. Hal Sutton said he was going to tell the players how to play and who they were playing with. Norman did the same thing and it didn’t work. Congratulations Freddy on your great leadership that led to the United States Win! The best leaders have contagious emotion, rather than an in-your-face, abrasive personality.

Your Chief Golf Swing Freak,

Brian
